Exclusive Photos: Behind-the-Scenes at the Grammys with Common
Getting ready for the Grammy Awards in L.A. on Monday, "Believe it or not, it was very difficult to pick out a pair of black shoes," Common tells PEOPLE.
Not as difficult: getting a nice close shave before the show.
"I'm finally dressed and ready for what the night has to offer."
The ride to the show includes a moment of calm – and a few beverages.
First stop before hitting the carpet? A quick meet-and-greet with drummer Travis Barker and his 12-year-old son, Landon.
"Backstage with one of the best that has ever touched the mic! Ladies Love Cool James."
"I keep waiting for someone to tap me on my shoulder to tell me to move because these front-row seats are great."
"I ran into my fellow Chicagoans and one the greatest bands, if not the greatest band of all time, Earth, Wind amp Fire, in the green room."
"Backstage with [National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences president] Neil Portnow and Joey Alexander. Joey is super dope at just 12 yeas old."
"It's always nice to get respect from your peers. I ran into the super-talented Jamie Foxx at one of the many afterparties. We were in full celebration mode."
