Grace VanderWaal is a star in her own right since winning season 11 of America’s Got Talent, but that doesn’t make her immune from some fan-girling.

The talented 12-year-old singer-songwriter has already received flowers from Taylor Swift and congratulatory tweets from the likes of Katy Perry, Ellen DeGeneres and Reese Witherspoon, but VanderWaal has maintained that Jason Mraz, 39, is one of her biggest inspirations.

“Jason Mraz, I would love to meet and just sing a song with,” she told USA Today. “I really like his music and singing his songs.”

VanderWaal continued to sing Mraz’s praises during a recent phone call.

“I love him so much,” she says in a recent video. “He really inspires my writing sound. I think we have really similar styles. He’s one of my favorite artists.”

Little did she know that Mraz was on the other end of the phone call, waiting to speak with her.

“Hey Grace, this is Jason,” the “I’m Yours” singer said.

“…Mraz? Oh my God!” VanderWaal responded in shock before letting out an excited scream.

“I wanted to thank you so much for all the kind words,” Mraz said, adding that he’s listened to her songs. “I just think what you’re doing is fantastic. I think there’s something deep inside of you that you’re allowing to come through and you’re doing it well.”

The AGT winner told PEOPLE that she planned on spending her prize of $1 million by donating part to a music charity – plus a little splurge.

“I want to go on Treehouse Masters and I want to get a treehouse,” she said.
