The Jane the Virgin star also shares her plans for the Oscars
Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez became an overnight sensation when she won the Golden Globe for best actress in a musical or comedy on Jan. 11. However, she doesn’t exactly keep her award in a Hollywood-worthy display case.
“It lives on my TV stand. In the box,” Rodriguez told PEOPLE at the Gold Meets Golden event celebrating the 2015 Special Olympics at the Equinox Sports Lounge and Club in Los Angeles on Saturday.
“Any time someone comes over, it’s the first thing they ask. I’m like, ‘Dude, we’ve been friends for like twelve years. It’s right there.’ ”
Rodriguez, 30, admits that all her friends want to do is hold her Globe, but she’s always worried they’ll break it. “I go, ‘Why are you holding it like that?! Be careful! If you drop it I’ll have your first child!’ ”
There’s something else Rodriguez got to keep from the Globes – her exquisite dress!
“Badgley Mischka gave me my Golden Globe dress,” revealed Rodriguez. “I was bawling. I was laying with it on the floor going ‘Oh my God!’ ”
But don’t expect to see her wear it again any time soon.
“I’m going to hold on to it,” said Rodriguez. “I know there’s going to be a right moment to give it to another girl or something. I know I’ll feel it and go ‘She needs to have it, take it.’ ”
Rodriguez’s next stop is Sunday night’s Oscars, where she’ll be representing Suzy Amis Cameron’s Red Carpet Green Dress campaign by wearing a sustainable outfit.
However, you may have to look really hard for her.
“I had my time. I want to give everyone their time and their experience and try not to make too much sound.”
