No one was more surprised at being considered a sex symbol than Gillian Anderson. “At first I thought it was bizarre. I just didn’t get it,” Anderson says in Redbook’s February issue. Part of her problem, she figures, was that her “X-Files” character, Dana Scully, was so straight-laced. “Scully is a change of pace, I guess,” Gillian, a single mom with a 4-year-old daughter, deduced. “There’s something about her intelligence that mixes with the male fantasy of ‘What does she really look like underneath those tailored suits?'”
