Gillian Anderson, Husband Split

The X-Files star and Julian Ozanne were married 16 months

X-Files star Gillian Anderson and her husband, photojournalist and documentary filmmaker Julian Ozanne, are separating after 16 months of marriage, their London-based lawyers said in a statement.

“Gillian Anderson and Julian Ozanne are saddened to announce that their marriage is at an end and they are in the process of separating.

“At this difficult time they request their privacy is respected. There will be no further comment,” said the statement from the legal firm of Schillings on behalf of Anderson, 37, and Ozanne, 43.

Anderson, a Chicago native, married Kenya-born foreign correspondent Ozanne on Dec. 29, 2004, on Lamu’s Shella island, off Kenya’s Indian Ocean coast.

Only Anderson’s immediate family, who had flown over from the U.S., and a handful of close friends attended the event, which was held in the gardens of London socialite Kate Barker’s Moroccan-style beach house, PEOPLE reported at the time. The bridesmaid was Gillian’s now-11-year-old daughter, Piper, from her previous marriage to movie art director Clyde Klotz.

Anderson and her daughter lived with Ozanne in London. The actress, best known as The X-Files’s Scully, recently received a Bafta Best Actress nomination for her portrayal of Lady Dedlock in the BBC’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’s Bleak House.
