Comic book king and acknowledged “sports geek” Todd McFarlane is baseball’s Anonymous, revealing Monday that he’s the guy who paid $3 million for Mark McGwire’s 70th home run ball. “I blew my life savings on this,” he said at a news conference. “I’m not Donald Trump. I don’t have a lot of cash.” The creator of Spawn comics (he also produces music videos) bought No. 70 at an auction in January. The 37-year-old Canadian, who lives in Tempe AZ, said he’d like to lend the ball to the Hall of Fame at times, make it available to charities to raise money and let major league teams display it. He told “Today” show host Matt Lauer on Tuesday that he’s been remiss in his charity work.
