Since news of Jennifer Garner’s pregnancy broke, Sydney Bristow has been growing right along with her. At least that’s what writers of ABC’s hit show Alias are planning.

Bristow is the well-traveled spy played by Garner on Alias, and for the show’s fifth season the actress’s pregnancy is going to be worked into the storyline, ABC’s programming chief Stephen McPherson confirmed. “We are going to embrace the fact that (Sydney is) pregnant,” he said.

The father of Sydney’s baby is fellow agent Michael Vaughn (Michael Vartan). McPherson said that writers will try to keep the show realistic and will not put Bristow in compromising or “campy” positions, the Associated Press reports.

“We also don’t want to put her in situations where she’s endangering herself and the baby,” he said.

He added that Garner initially would be able to do a lot of running in character, but as her pregnancy progresses that will have to change. In order to keep the action-packed show’s excitement from flagging, a younger agent under Bristow’s tutelage is being added to the storyline. That part has not yet been cast.

Garner, 33, married Ben Affleck, 32, in June. The two met while filming the movie Daredevil in 2003, but didn’t start dating until last year. Their baby is due around Christmas.
