The people at Fox TV don’t have much confidence in their news talent. New York’s Daily News says that back when Fox was still in the running to interview Monica Lewinsky, the network was trying to line up either Katie Couric or Matt Lauer (of rival NBC) or even Phil Donahue or Walter Cronkite to quiz the former White House intern. “Today” show producer Jeff Zucker says there’s no way his co-hosts would have crossed over and done the Fox interview. The News says Donahue was definitely interested and that Cronkite was being sought as a backup. The issue, however, became moot when Lewinsky decided to go with ABC and Barbara Walters.
