Ford in ABC's Future

ABC News has lured Jack Ford away from NBC to be a host and correspondent on “20/20,” thus making him a leading candidate to replace Charles Gibson on “Good Morning America.” The amiable Ford has been the chief legal correspondent at NBC and co-anchor of the “Today” show weekend editions. A former prosecutor in Monmouth County, N.J., Ford began a TV career as a legal commentator at New York’s WCBS-TV in 1983. He was an anchor at Court TV from 1991 until 1994. He’ll leave “Today” following Saturday’s edition.

  • On the other side of the fence, NBC is expected to announce soon that it has hired a defector from ABC. Newsman Forrest Sawyer (who left ABC this summer) will sign on as a substitute anchor at various NBC shows, according to a network source.
