Footballer Faces Murder Rap
Cherica Adams, the 24-year-old girlfriend of Carolina Panthers football player Rae Carruth, died Tuesday of wounds suffered in a Nov. 16 drive-by shooting that led to Carruth’s arrest. The Panters’ wide receiver, 25, who already faces conspiracy, attempted murder and related charges, now faces a first-degree murder rap. (He was released on $3 million bail after being charged with the previous offenses, and has not been arrested as of Tuesday afternoon.) Adams died at a hospital almost a month after being shot four times from a passing vehicle as she drove through a Charlotte, N.C., neighborhood. The shooting led to the emergency delivery of her baby, who was born 10 weeks premature and was recently released from the neonatal intensive care unit.
