Food Fight Between Giada De Laurentiis and Rachael Ray?

"Are we best friends? No," though they're friendly, says De Laurentiis


The rumored rivalry between TV chefs Giada De Laurentiis and Rachael Ray is simply that – a rumor. Not that they’re sharing stoves together.

“Do we hang out all the time? No. Are we best friends? No,” Food Network star De Laurentiis, 38, tells Redbook for its June issue, on newsstands next Tuesday. “We do these festivals together, and she’ll say to me, ‘Oh, we’d better take a picture together and smile, because if we don’t, God only knows what’s going to get written about us.’ ”

Adds De Laurentiis: “She’s a lovely person.”

With her new show Giada at Home focusing on low-key California-style entertaining for loved ones, De Laurentiis is asked what would be her reaction should her daughter Jade, 1 – whose dad is Giada’s husband, fashion designer Todd Thompson – turn out to be a fussy eater.

“She’s not fussy,” says a relieved De Laurentiis. “She loves grilled lamb chops and eats quinoa” – an amino acid-rich seed with a fluffy, creamy, slightly crunchy texture and a somewhat nutty flavor. The mother and chef further advises that kids will not eat properly “if you cook vegetables in a boring way You have to make food fun.”
