Stepdaughter Surprises Stepdad with Adoption Papers for His Birthday: 'You Have No Idea What That Means To Me'
Florida man can now adopt his stepdaughter
A Florida man was surprised when his stepdaughter presented him with a heartfelt birthday gift this week.
David Lynde, who celebrated his 53rd birthday this week, received adoption papers from his 22-year-old stepdaughter, Gabby Guardado.
Despite being unable to adopt Guardado when she was younger due to her biological father’s refusal, Lynde became her primary father figure.
In an ABC News video, Lynde opened his present and joked about receiving a pen.
“I got a pen!” he said.
Then he pulled out the adoption papers and simply stared.
“Am I adopting you?” he asked Guardado.
“I want you to,” Guardado said. “You don’t have to. You can say no. But I want you to adopt me. You’ve been my dad and I know legal papers don’t change anything.”
Florida law allows adult adoptions, easing the way for Guardado to become Gabby Lynde.
