The show, which starred Tim Allen, went off the air Tuesday after an eight-year run. Only “Seinfeld,” “Cheers” and “The Cosby Show” drew more viewers during their series finales. During the 90-minute feature, next-door neighbor Wilson revealed his face for the first time since the show began. The show had a 21.2 rating and a 34 share, meaning a third of the television sets in use at the time were tuned in to “Home Improvement.” By comparison, the season’s top-rated series, “ER,” averaged 25 million viewers this year. NBC’s “Mad About You,'” which had its series finale on Monday night, drew 19.8 million viewers. Fox’s “Melrose Place” had 10.4 million viewers for its final show, also Monday night.
