A father of two from Quincy, Massachusetts, boarded a commuter train Wednesday without realizing he had left his daughter in the car.

The man spoke to The Boston Herald on condition of anonymity, and said he got off at his Kendall Square stop before he realized he hadn’t dropped off his daughter at daycare. For a moment, the college administrator couldn’t remember the morning’s events, but he called 911 as soon as he realized she was alone in his SUV.

“My heart sank,” he said. “It’s a very helpless feeling.”

The police found the child, who was unharmed, and the dispatcher called the man back to let him know his daughter was okay.

The man will not be charged, MBTA Transit police told Boston.com.

“Thank God it didn’t go worse,” he told The Herald. “I’ve been beating myself up all day.”
