Which Star Beat the Kardashians for the Best Celebrity Fanbase of 2017? (Hint: He Rocks!)

FanSided just released their second annual ranking of the top 250 fandoms in the world — which measures the the best fandoms across sports, entertainment, tech and more

The Kardashians may have a hit TV show and a slew of best-selling products, but when it comes to fandoms, they can’t keep up with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

On Tuesday, FanSided released their second annual ranking of the top 250 fandoms in the world — which measures the best fanbases across sports, entertainment, technology, lifestyle and more. And beating out the Kardashians in the 2017 Fandom 250 celebrity vertical was the 45-year-old Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle actor, who FanSided said has the best fanbase among the stars.

Johnson, who announced Monday he and girlfriend Lauren Hashian are expecting their second daughter together, placed in third on the overall list, too — behind Ohio State Buckeye fans (title holders for the number one best fandom in the world for 2017) and Game of Thrones fans. He bested Star Wars fans and Conor McGregor fans, however.

For celebrities, Stephen Colbert fell just behind Johnson in second with the Kardashians coming in at number three. Ava Duvernay, Shonda Rhimes, Stephen King and Gal Gadot were also among the top 10.

“Perhaps the most insane thing about Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s fans is the simple fact that they show up with the same type of intensity no matter what avenue he’s working in,” FanSided wrote. “Whether he’s in the WWE ring — where he got his start — on the silver screen with his next hit film, or on the set of HBO’s Ballers, there’s no question that The Rock is going to bring in fans in droves. He’s just that type of star right now that crosses over from one platform to another and just makes more fans every day.”

The site continued in the explanation of Johnson’s ranking, “That’s ultimately how you tell about how great someone’s fans are, though.”

“When they can jump from one platform to another and not just refuse to lose popularity, but actually gain popularity, that says something serious. Not only is it a tremendous talent we’re talking about, but it’s an even greater group of fans that are supporting this person through it all. Assuredly, Dwayne Johnson has that type of group of fans behind him.”

To determine the list, FanSided editors gathered information over several months and assigned fandoms points for longevity, worth, size, social interaction, buzz factor and passion.

Other notable fandoms ranking number one in their respective categories were: Netflix fans, Marvel fans, Pokémon fans, Jenna Marbles fans and Beyoncé fans.
