Facebook just released its 2013 Year in Review stats, and they’re a great snapshot of 2013 as we get ready to bid the year farewell.

The site shared the top life events globally, the top check-ins around the world, and the most-discussed topics throughout the year.

The top life event was “added a relationship, got engaged, or got married,” followed by “traveled” and “moved.” On a more bittersweet note, “ended a relationship” was No. 4, though “first met a friend” and “added a family member, expecting or had a baby” were Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.

Strangely, “got a piercing” came in at No. 9: Of life’s (and Facebook’s) rich tapestry of events, that seems like an outlier amid a field that also included “lost a loved one” at No. 8.

The most popular check-ins were incredibly varied – you should definitely just check out the map here, though we can tell you that Disney is the clear winner: Disneyland in California, Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris were all among the most-visited spots of 2013.

Continuing his Epic Year, Pope Francis was the most talked-about topic of 2013, followed shortly by “election,” "Royal Baby", “typhoon” and – sigh – “Harlem Shake.” Miley Cyrus came in at No. 7, because … well, because of course she did.

You can also do a drill-down of the most-discussed topics by country – did you know that “Harlem Shake” was the most talked-about topic of 2013 … in Poland?
