Exclusive: Stars' Favorite (& Craziest!) VMA Moments of '09
"Performing 'Since You've Been Gone" in the rain for the VMAs was one of my favorite moments on television! I hate being all dressed up, so the fact that I was soaking wet with mascara smeared all over my face was definitely the highlight of my evening!"
"My favorite VMA moment is jumping out of a window last year when I performed 'So What!'"
"I think the VMAs were one of the first places Fall Out Boy ever 'won' anything. Art is not really a competition, but it means a lot when your fans vote for you. The VMAs have always been legendary in my head from when Britney [performed] with a snake to Guns N' Roses."
"The first VMAs I went to [were in 2005,] the year Laguna Beach premiered. [It] was the most memorable because no one knew who we were yet. I never thought I would actually be at the VMAs. I remember waiting for our limo outside the hotel and next to us was Gwen Stefani, and I was so mesmerized by her. Christina Aguilera performed that year and we were sitting right there, I remember just thinking it was the coolest experience."
"My favorite VMA moment of all time actually happened last year. Spencer [Pratt] and I were standing in the backstage lot at Paramount with Pete Wentz. All of a sudden, Rihanna came up to me, hugged me and told me I looked so beautiful. I couldn’t even believe she knew who I was, let alone acted like we were BFF. It was amazing. I'm her biggest fan!"
"Didn't one of the Rage Against the Machine members climb the scaffolding once? Yeah, I might reenact ..."
"The most memorable VMA moment for me was when 'NSync performed behind flat computerized screens [in 2000]. I thought the production was original at the time – then the icing on the cake was when Michael Jackson joined them. The best!"
"My first time at the VMAs, I performed 'Get Ur Freak On' with Missy Elliot in 2001. She had built this amazing structure that looked like her head that was the size of a large air balloon. My 'moment' was when I came out of the slide that was her tongue. I had to slide down at the exact right second to get to my part of the song in time – on live TV, of course. Hilarious and fun."
"We were in Vegas two years ago when Britney Spears performed and I was so excited to see her – I thought she did really good. I also remember the fight that broke out between Kid Rock and Tommy Lee [in 2007]. We were sitting right there and were like, 'Oh my gosh, what do we do?!' I will always remember that."
