It was an emotional reunion when a Florida judge realized the burglary suspect in front of her was actually a former middle school classmate.
Arthur Booth, 49, couldn’t believe his eyes on Wednesday when the judge assigned to his case was none other than Mindy Glazer – whom he knew from his childhood. She is now a judge in Miami-Dade courts.
“Oh my goodness, oh my goodness,” Booth said, over and over as he covered his head in tears, NBC reports.
Booth was arrested on Monday by police on several charges including burglary, grand theft, fleeing, and resisting arrest.
“I’m sorry to see you there, I always wondered what happened to you, sir,” Glazer said. “This was the nicest kid in middle school, he was the best kid in middle school. I used to play football with him, all the kids, and look what has happened.”
An arrest report notes that Booth was seen driving a car that was suspected of being involved in a home burglary. When an officer tried to stop the car, Booth apparently took off, eventually crashing and then fleeing by foot. He was caught shortly after.
“I am so sorry to see you there. Mr. Booth, I hope you are able to change your ways, good luck to you,” she said. “What’s sad is how old we’ve become. Good luck to you sir, I hope you are able to come out of this ok and just lead a lawful life.”
Judge Glazer set Booth’s bond at $43,000.
