Eminem Divorce Hearing Held in Private
Lawyers for both sides meet behind closed doors to settle the split with Kim
Eminem and wife Kimberly Mathers continued divorce proceeding behind closed doors on Thursday, the Associated Press reports.
Kimberley Mathers, who is seeking financial support, attorney fees and joint custody of the couple’s 10-year-old daughter, Hailie Jade, was seen being escorted out of Michigan’s Macomb County Circuit Court by a sheriff’s deputy.
Her lawyer did not comment on the proceedings, and Eminem’s lawyer could not be reached by the AP.
Eminem (real name: Marshall Bruce Mathers III) was not seen by reporters at the courthouse, but court officer Mark Mileski said the rapper was present for the hour-long meeting before Court Referee David Elias.
Eminem, 33, and Kim, 31, were married on Jan. 14 for the second time, and Eminem filed for divorce 82 days later, on April 5. Their first marriage lasted from 1999 to 2001.
In addition to Hailie Jade, the couple adopted Kim’s niece Alaina, 12. Kim also has a daughter, Whitney, 3, from a previous relationship.
A settlement conference on the divorce is scheduled for Sept. 19.
