Emilia Clarke has already braved being naked around the dragons of Game of Thrones, so she took stripping down for some action-oriented scenes in Terminator: Genesys in stride.

“Naked in a harness was fun – doing stunts, that was good,” chuckled the actress as a Friday press conference in Los Angeles to promote the new film. “That was interesting.”

Taking on the iconic role of Terminator heroine Sarah Connor (previously played by Linda Hamilton) Clarke, who’s previously had to shed her wardrobe for her role as Daenerys Targaryen on her HBO series, found herself called upon to perform in the buff once again for the latest installment in the sci-fi franchise, where the rules of time travel preclude wearing clothing.

The actress soon found herself strapped into a rig opposite co-star Jai Courtney, also naked, to be levitated together via special effects during a time-hopping sequence, emerging from the past into the middle of a crowded freeway.

Her co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger, who himself stripped down as the iconic android killing machine in the original 1984 film, offered only minor sympathy.

“[Nude scenes] are embarrassing, but fun,” said the former California governor. “It leads to funny conversations and funny dialogue and great humor and everything like that. It’s inevitable, you have to do it because it’s what the movie shows, and there are certain times you can cover things up, and there are certain times you don t and you can t. So what? I don t think there’s anyone here that has anything to hide.”

“Well, I had a few things I tried to hide,” quipped Clarke, who through creative camera angles doesn’t actually appear fully nude in the film.

The film’s director Alan Taylor, who previously worked with Clarke on several episodes of Game of Thronesm said the star did have someone in her corner during shooting.

“We had a wonderful AD named Phil Patterson who would always get half-naked whenever there was a nude scene,” said Taylor of the man Clarke affectionately called “Uncle Phil.” “She’d wander around looking beautiful and then there was Phil, not looking quite good. A team player.”
