ELWAY LEADS BRONCOS

Quarterback John Elway led the Denver Broncos to their second straight title on Sunday with a 34-19 romp over the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl XXXIII. Elway, 38, passed for 336 yards — the third highest total in Super Bowl history — as the Broncos became the first team to claim back-to-back crowns since the Dallas Cowboys won in 1992-93. Elway, who earned Most Valuable Player of the Game honors, is expected to retire after 16 years in the National Football League.

  • Cher sang the national anthem before the game, accompanied by an 80-piece orchestra. She admitted to being extremely nervous because, she said, the event was “so awesome.” Half-time performers included Stevie Wonder and Gloria Estefan.
