Elvis Presley’s 1958 U.S. Army jacket — which was stained on the sleeve because the King leaned against a freshly painted window while wearing it — was withdrawn from auction in London yesterday, after it failed to reach its reserve price of nearly $36,000. Instead, bidding didn’t even get as high as $10,000. Alexander Crum-Ewing of the auction house of Bonhams and Brooks told Reuters that he blamed the failed sale on a glut of Elvis memorabilia on the market. “This piece was more army than rock ‘n’ roll,” he also noted.
