Yes, anything could happen – but Ellie Goulding‘s putting some rumors to rest.

Last year, fellow Brit Ed Sheeran made headlines when tabloids reported his bitter kiss-off “Don’t” was inspired by Goulding: Per the whispers, she and Sheeran were dating, but she cheated with One Direction‘s Niall Horan.

Not true, the “Love Me Like You Do” singer, 28, tells ELLE UK in their July issue.

“I did go on a few dates with Niall, but I was never in a relationship with Ed,” she explains. “I have absolutely no idea where that came from and why it was turned into such a big thing.”

Goulding went on to blast the double standard women in music face, recounting a similar conversation she had with pal Taylor Swift, whose “Bad Blood” music video she just starred in.

“I find it so frustrating that female musicians are constantly defined by the men they have or haven’t dated. It’s something I’ve talked about with Taylor a lot. She definitely feels that. She gets bothered by it,” Goulding told the mag.

“It’s like, you can be a great artist, you can write great songs, but the thing that everyone is going to talk about is some relationship they think you have had or not had. It’s definitely something we both think happens to female artists over male artists.’ ”

For his part, Sheeran – who’s also friends with Swift – recently addressed the kerfuffle surrounding his single in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Asked by EW if he “regret letting slip” that the song was inspired by Goulding and Horan, Sheeran countered:

“I never let it slip. What happened was one of the newspapers in England just printed that it was confirmed when it never was,” Sheeran, 24, said. “We got in touch, and they took the story down. But obviously the damage had already been done by that point because every other newspaper picked up on it. So I never actually confirmed it.”

These days, Goulding is happy as can be with McFly rocker boyfriend Dougie Poynter, 27.

“He is definitely the one forever. He’s been through a lot, and he has a quiet depth that I love,” she says. “And you know what, when I was a teenager, I fancied him, but I thought he was out of my league. Way too good-looking for me.”

Despite tabloid reports the pair is set to tie the knot, a rep for Goulding tells PEOPLE they are not engaged yet.

But when they do walk down the aisle, one of Goulding’s friendly exes, Calvin Harris – who’s reportedly dating Swift – has offered to perform!

“Calvin Harris has already offered to play at our wedding. Not that we’ve organized one,” said Goulding. “But the offer has been made.”
