Her intimate "dream wedding" took place in Hawaii, Smart's spokesperson tells PEOPLE exclusively
Elizabeth Smart began a jubilant new chapter in her life Saturday – as a beaming bride.
“To be in one of her favorite places with her family has made for a dream wedding. It’s been an absolutely beautiful day,” her spokesperson, Chris Thomas, tells PEOPLE exclusively.
“She is positively radiant. And Matthew couldn t be happier.”
Smart, 24, exchanged vows with her boyfriend of one year, Matthew Gilmour, 22, in a private ceremony on Saturday afternoon in Hawaii.
The couple will honeymoon at an undisclosed location before returning to Salt Lake City to begin their married life together.
Smart, who was kidnapped from her home in 2002 at age 14, had planned a summer wedding with Gilmour, of Aberdeen, Scotland, whom she met in Paris when both were doing Mormon mission work. But with media attention keenly focused on the couple, they changed the wedding from a summer date to a secret destination wedding attended only by family, Thomas tells PEOPLE.
