The happy new bride shares all the details of her Hawaiian nuptials with Matthew Gilmour

A modern-day fairy tale complete with a beautiful heroine and a dashing Scottish Prince Charming, came to life on Saturday on the North shore of Oahu, Hawaii, as Elizabeth Ann Smart married her boyfriend of one year, Matthew Gilmour in an intimate ceremony attended by family and close friends.

In this week’s cover story, PEOPLE shares exclusive photographs of the radiant bride and happy groom, their wedding party and evening luau – as well as exclusive details of how they met and how he proposed, the wedding day preparations and the reasons Smart chose the breathtaking shores of Oahu for her celebration.

“They are clearly besotted with each other, and it’s a wonderful thing to see,” the groom’s mother, Kay Gilmour, tells PEOPLE.

After a January engagement, Smart, 24, and Gilmour, 22, decided two weeks ago to get married in Hawaii, keeping their destination secret from the public and planning the entire event in just days.

Smart, who was kidnapped from her home in 2002 at age 14, told guests gathered at her reception that her wedding day was one of the happiest in her life.

“Matthew, I love you so much,” Smart said. “I couldn’t be happier. I am so grateful that everyone is here to be with and support us on this beautiful day. I love you so much.”
