Pop singer El DeBarge was arrested for domestic violence early Wednesday morning at a Lancaster, Calif. home, the Los Angeles County Sheriffs confirm.
Details were not immediately available, but Sgt. John Coffeen tells PEOPLE that DeBarge was “cooperative” and that “an arrest like this usually involves abuse of a spouse or significant other. I don’t know whose house it was.”
El DeBarge, 46, real name Eldra DeBarge, is currently housed at the Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles. He was given no option to post bail.
He is best known as the lead singer of the family group, DeBarge, which was founded in the late 1970s and which had their biggest hit, “Rhythm of the Night,” in the mid-1980s before he launched a solo career.
A rep for the singer was not immediately available for comment.
