Earl's Ex Settles with Lawyers

The former wife of Princess Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, has settled out of court with the law firm she accused of giving her bad advice during her divorce. Countess Spencer, the former Victoria Lockwood, had received a nearly $3 million settlement from Earl Spencer after a bitter 1997 court battle in South Africa that ended her eight-year marriage. She lodged a negligence claim against the Family Law Consortium, alleging they erred in not securing the divorce in Britain. A second law firm represented Lady Spencer in the negligence suit said Tuesday that she had settled for an unspecified “substantial sum of damages” and legal costs. A spokeswoman for the Family Law firm said its decision to settle was “commercial.”
