The whole thing sounds like it’s out of a Muppets movie. Only it’s for real.

A new coffee shop opened in the Los Feliz section of Los Angeles on Friday, and there were lines for its special brew all weekend. Name of the establishment in the strip mall: Dumb Starbucks.

Looking just like a regular Starbucks, right down to the all-too-familiar green, black and white logo, Dumb Starbucks has Dumb Iced Coffee, Dumb Frappuccinos, a seasonal Wuppy Duppy Latte and “Dumb Jazz Standards” CDs on its bill o’fare, reports the Los Angeles Times, also noting that the genuine Starbucks is “looking into” the parody, according to the Seattle-based company’s spokesperson, Megan Adams.

As for the legalities of there being a Dumb Starbucks, Adams declined to say, but at the site a list of frequently asked questions addresses the issue, somewhat.

“Although we are a fully functioning coffee shop, for legal reasons Dumb Starbucks needs to be categorized as a work of parody art,” said a statement. “So, in the eyes of the law, our ‘coffee shop’ is actually an art gallery and the ‘coffee’ you re buying is considered the art. But that’s for our lawyers to worry about. All you need to do is enjoy our delicious coffee!”

So far, that seems to be the case. With buzz that the parody could only last so long, people are rushing in to buy.

“It’s a very L.A. thing,” Connor Sweeney, 24, tells the Times. “We’ll see how long it lasts, that’s why I’m here today.”
