Renée Zellweger and Bradley Cooper enjoyed an unexpected dinner with Kate Hudson and her reported new love interest, rocker Matthew Bellamy, on Sunday night – when the couples happened to pick the same tiny, out-of-the-way bistro in Paris.

Sources tell PEOPLE that Hudson, 31, and Bellamy, 32, the English frontman of the rock band Muse, arrived with a group of friends at around 9 p.m. at L’Ami Louis, a ’30s-style traditional French bistro. About two hours later, Zellweger, 41, and Cooper, 35, arrived.

Cooper and Zellweger – whose reps recently denied rumors that couple are engaged – were seated next to the larger group, but soon they pushed the tables together. The group dined until about 12:30 a.m., when they moved the party to the hotel bar at the Plaza-Athénée.

A source tells PEOPLE that Zellweger was “very smiley, very happy to be here,” and at one point left the table with Hudson for a private chat in a corner of the restaurant. Cooper was in town to promote The A-Team, and was spotted earlier in the day strolling the Champs-élysées by himself.

Hudson, meanwhile, had attended Muse’s concert in Paris on Saturday and was spotted around town with Bellamy on Sunday.
