DMX Makes First Appearance After Reportedly Nearly Dying of Drug Overdose
The rapper stepped out in New York City on Thursday
On Thursday night, the 45-year-old rapper stepped out in New York City’s Meatpacking district. Bundled up in an oversized coat, DMX exited an SUV en route to a performance at The Lively nightclub.
The appearance marks the first time DMX (né Earl Simmons) has been seen in public since reportedly suffering a drug overdose on Monday. According to the New York Post‘s Page Six, the “X Gon Give It to Ya” musician was under the influence of a substance when he collapsed in Yonkers, New York.
Due to HIPAA laws, authorities could not confirm the patient’s identity, although Lieutenant Patrick McCormack told PEOPLE police responded to a call after a man from Mount Kisco, New York, was found unconscious and unresponsive, with no pulse and no respiration. He was resuscitated and not expected to be charged with a crime, as nothing suspicious was found in his Ramada Inn hotel room, McCormack said.
DMX’s reps, who reportedly told TMZ and Page Six that he suffered an asthma attack, could not be immediately reached for comment by PEOPLE.
