The pair tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony at the New York Public Library in N.Y.C. on Friday.
Devon’s wedding, which was chosen by TheKnot.com as the recipient of this year’s Dream Wedding, comes after much anticipation. Devon, 26, and Joyce, 26, put their marriage plans on hold when Leah was diagnosed with life-threatening stage 4 neuroblastoma two years ago.
As guests waited they enjoyed classical renditions of pop songs like “All of Me” by John Legend.
The bride and groom descended down opposite staircases at NYPL. As soon as Devon’s daughter Leah saw Asha, who was wearing an embellished white gown with a flowing train and veil, she began crying and couldn’t stop through the whole ceremony, she held her hand over her heart.
When Devon saw Leah walk down the aisle, he wiped away silent tears, smiling at his strong, resilient daughter he calls “his inspiration”
As exclusively reported by PEOPLE Devon’s daughter Leah served as flower girl for the wedding, and received a special bracelet for the day.
Leah ran up to her dad, crying hysterically, and hugged him after he said his vows: “We made it through the storm. We made it through hell.”
Devon’s mother was the pastor and joked “divorce is not an option!”
After Devon’s vows he beckoned to Leah to come to the altar in the front entrance way of the NYPL which was made of glass and decorated with a variety of white flowers.
Holding her hand he wiped away her tears and incorporated her into the ceremony. It was just as much about her and making the family complete as it was about his union with Asha.
Flowers, all white, came from 17 different farms from all over America, while 180 guests were present and sliders, shiitake mushrooms and salted caramel macaroons were served.
Leah and Devon prepared a daddy/daughter dance to “Uptown Funk” where Leah giggled and did the jive while Devon danced behind her smiling.
