What’s wrong with being confident?

Absolutely nothing, according to Demi Lovato‘s fierce alter ego in her new music video for “Confident,” released Friday.

Lovato, 23, kicks off the action-heavy affair as a chained public enemy in prison. Soon, she is released and encounters Michellle Rodriguez, 37, in a series of fights the singer just can’t win. Fans of both stars will be thrilled to know the strong women realize they have something big in common and join forces to kick butt.

It’s a big month for Lovato, who is releasing her new album Confident on Oct. 16. The former Disney star has been grabbing headlines for everything from her inspiring fight for mental health reform in Washington, D.C. to her nude and makeup-free photo shoot for Vanity Fair.

“I went from being in a place where I was suffering from an eating disorder and hating every single inch of my body to now baring my legs and showing more skin in front of the whole world and being proud of my body instead of loathing it,” Lovato recently told PEOPLE of embracing her sexy side in the new chapter of her career. “It’s important for me to show people you can go from hating to yourself to loving yourself and being proud of your body and the skin you’re in.”
