Ratings for the “Late Show with David Letterman” are slipping to embarrassing levels, reports The Washington Post. Right now Dave is only 200,000 viewers ahead of Pat Sajak’s famously disastrous 1989-90 CBS late-night talk show. “It’s no longer Jay vs. Dave in the late-night TV battle,” says The Post. “That’s over.” NBC’s Jay Leno has been ahead of Dave in the ratings for nearly four years. And Letterman lags way behind Ted Koppel’s “Nightline” on ABC — and is “even wheezing to stay ahead of Conan O’Brien’s talk show,” The Post notes.

  • CBS execs told The Post that they’re cool about this; Dave draws an affluent audience that advertisers like, and last season Dave’s show got the Emmy.
