Even James Bond gets hurt. 007 star Daniel Craig was rushed to the hospital after injuring his hand while filming an action scene Tuesday, PEOPLE has confirmed.

Craig, 40, was shooting a fight sequence for Quantum of Solace when a finger tip of his right hand was sliced open.

“He went to hospital but there were no stitches,” a source tells PEOPLE. “There was, however, an awful lot of blood.”

A spokesman for production company Eon stated that Craig was taken to see a doctor as “a precaution,” according to the Daily Mail newspaper.

The British actor, who took over the role from Pierce Brosnan in 2006, returned to the set at Pinewood Studios, west of London, later in the day.

The incident marks the second time in as many weeks that Craig has been hurt during the making of the movie – just days ago his face was cut so badly that the wound required eight stitches.

“It’s a huge and intense action film, so problems are bound to occur,” says an insider.

Filming 007 can prove a dangerous proposition: in April two stunt drivers suffered injuries in two separate lakeside accidents in northern Italy.

“The vehicle accidents were horrific,” adds the insider. “The main thing now is that Daniel is back on the job. He’s a real trooper.”
