Matt Damon is likely to star with Tom Cruise in a science-fiction film for director Steven Spielberg. Variety reports that the movie, “Minority Report,” is being adopted from a short story by Philip K. Dick. Once a final script is approved, shooting will start in October for a scheduled release next summer. Cruise will play a cop in a future where killers are arrested for murders that they have yet to commit — thus preventing any crime. The snag: His brother (the Damon role) is one of the future murderers.

  • In other casting news, supermodel Amber Valletta (the face of Elizabeth Arden) is set to cast her lot on the silver screen. She has landed a supporting role in “What Lies Beneath,” a supernatural thriller that stars Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer.
