If you’re going to get advice for the new year, you could do a lot worse than the Dalai Lama’s.

So here it is.

“Whether the coming year is happy or miserable depends on us,” the Dalai Lama says. He explains that we can build a happy year by focusing on being a “more sincere, more compassionate” person, then “try [ing] to share” that with others.

We’re sure you’ve got your resolutions lined up, and we’re equally sure the Internet will be flooded with “advice for 2014” posts, but again, we think the Dalai Lama has a leg up on others in this particular field. So you may want to bump his advice to the top of the heap.
