Dad Gets One Direction Tattoo in Attempt to Win Concert Tickets for His Daughters – Only to be Disqualified from the Contest

Dad learns the hard way that it pays to read the fine print

Ouch! A dad in Tennessee who couldn’t afford to take his daughters to a One Direction concert in Indiana had “I love One Direction” tattooed on his arm in an effort to win tickets from a radio contest – only to be disqualified because he lives out-of-state.

“The day he got the tattoo that’s when he said, ‘I hope it’s not one of those contests where you have to be a resident of the state,'” daughter Makayla, 14, told ABC News.

Indeed, it was one of those contests.

Roger Fraser, 37, is known among his daughters’ friends, for doing “crazy stuff” to get a laugh. So when he heard 99.5 WZPL had a contest to win tickets to the One Direction show his daughters wanted to attend, he got creative, he told ABC.

While other dads dressed up as part of the band or took photos amid memorabilia, Fraser decided to get inked on his right arm.

Perhaps he should have read the fine print first.

The very next day, Makayla took a peek at the contest rules and cringed. The competition was only open to permanent residents of Indiana, which meant her dad was ineligible to win.

While they didn’t score tickets, Fraser, who already has three other tattoos, says he has no regrets and plans to keep the ink forever to remind him of his misadventure with his daughters.

This story ends happily: The three still got to go the concert in Indianapolis on July 31. They drove from Columbia, Tenn., and bought tickets moments before the show started.

“We didn’t get to meet One Direction. We didn’t go on stage or get front row,” Fraser told ABC. “But the reward has been all the memories that we’ve made.”
