DA: Puffy Tried Bribe

The prosecutor in the case against Sean “Puffy” Combs is claiming that the rap mogul attempted to bribe his driver with $50,000 in cash and a $40,000 diamond ring if the driver would say he owned a gun that police found in the vehicle after Combs and Jennifer Lopez fled a New York nightclub shooting last Dec. 27. (The ring reportedly was a gift from Lopez to Combs.) Prosecutor Matthew Bogdanos said the alleged bribe to Wardel Fenderson, 41, took place at the police station where Lopez and Combs were arrested. On Thursday the prosecutor asked a judge to increase Combs’s bail from $10,000 to $150,000. Combs’s attorney, Benjamin Brafman, denied that his client had offered anyone a bribe. No ruling has been made. Combs is charged with having two stolen guns in his Lincoln Navigator when he fled the shooting: one in the car, the other tossed from the vehicle, claims the prosecutor. If convicted, Combs could face up to 15 years in prison.
