British soul singer Corinne Bailey Rae, whose husband, saxophonist Jason Rae, was found dead in the couple’s home last weekend, has issued a statement expressing her gratitude to those who have extended their sympathy.

Though her manager, Bob Miller, it was stated, “Corinne Bailey Rae and her family have been touched by the huge amount of love and support that’s flooded in from all over the world, and that is really helping all of us cope at this terrible time.

“Corinne is also very grateful for the privacy she is being given and the respect that has been paid to herself and Jason.”

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said that on Saturday afternoon officers were called to the Raes’ apartment in Leeds, England, where they found Rae, 31, already dead.

In connection with the case, a 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs. He was subsequently released on bail, according to police.

An inquest into the death began on Thursday.

In addition to prayers being posted online, the singer’s record company also sent a message of condolences.

Bailey Rae, 29, met her husband in a Leeds jazz club, where she worked as a coat-room attendant. They wed in 2001.
