Did Téa Leoni and David Duchovny forget to look in the mirror before leaving for a Frederick's of Hollywood benefit in L.A. in April? Both take the distressed denim look too far, with Leoni drowning in a too-long skirt and Duchovny opting for ghastly tapered jeans.
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver enjoy one of Hollywood's most enduring marriages, having been together since 1986. And it shows: At a June awards show in L.A., both look polished and chic in their snazzy suits.
At the 2003 MTV Movie Awards in L.A. in May, Harrison Ford's shades of gray perfectly complement Calista Flockhart's sparkling silver ensemble – and their bright smiles match as well. This must be what Ford had in mind when he told InStyle in May, "Clothes should do their job but fade into the background."
Newlyweds Jamie-Lynn Sigler and manager A.J. Discala look red hot at the June premiere of Sex and the City in New York. The scarlet in Discala's tie sets off Sigler's eye-catching yet elegant red dress. "I don't like (my clothes) too over-the-top sexy," Sigler told PEOPLE in March.
Although she told PEOPLE in April, "I don't want people to dress like me anymore," Madonna and Guy Ritchie live up to their reputations as trendsetters at an April exhibit at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York. Madonna's trendy tweed top and gray skirt play perfectly off the stripes in Ritchie's suit and scarf.
Although Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith "enjoy dressing alike a lot," stylist Nonja McKenzie told PEOPLE in June 2001, the matching mates went too far at the May premiere of The Matrix Reloaded in L.A. Will's head-to-toe metallic suit and Jada's loud, beaded jacket are more gaudy than glitzy.
At the L.A. premiere of Kevin Costner's movie Open Range in August, country crooner Brad Paisley and actress-wife Kimberly Williams attempted to dress in their best westerns – but fell flat in mismatched blues.
They're usually one of the most chic celebrity couples, but in New York in May, supermodel Iman and hubby David Bowie looked more silly than stylish in competing prints and clashing shades of purple. Do over!
Courteney Cox Arquette looks ready to party at March's Human Spirit Awards Gala in Beverly Hills, but thanks to his red-and-black striped suit and glittery tie, hubby David Arquette looks more like he's headed for the circus. Indeed, "I'd love it if platform shoes and jumpsuits came back into fashion," he told The Calgary Sun in March 2001.
WILD, WILD WEAR
Yikes! At March's L.A. premiere of Agent Cody Banks, Jason Sehorn looks clean-cut and classy in a suede jacket and pressed pants while his wife, actress Angie Harmon, appears full-on flashy with chunky jewelry atop an already loud blouse.
Although "she loves it all jumbled up," stylist Garth Condit told PEOPLE in June 2001, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick took the casually mismatched look too far at June's New York premiere of Sex and the City. She's nearly popping out of the top of her chic plum Yves St. Laurent frock, while he looks frumpy in pinstripes and purple plaid.
"Becks" and "Posh" (David and Victoria Beckham, the soccer star and former Spice Girl, that is) look very Vegas in their matching white outfits and sparkling diamonds at the MTV Movie Awards in L.A. in May. "They're our showbiz royalty," Sean Hoare of Britain's News and World told PEOPLE in June.
Too cute! Married rock stars Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale live together, sing together and, on a sunny L.A. day in July, dress together! Yet despite the matching denim and army green ensembles, Stefani maintains her sense of style by adding matching yellow aviator shades and sneakers.
