Conan O’Brien, host of the Robin Hood Foundation bash in New York Wednesday night, announced to the 700-strong crowd: “We have a great line up tonight. Usually, I say that five nights a week and we have Abe Vigoda and Al Roker backstage, and I never mean it.” A few barbs later, reports PEOPLE, he said, “Gwyneth Paltrow is here tonight — what the hell is that about? Last year, at this event, she auctioned herself off for $270,000 for a date. The anonymous bidder was a soon-to-be unemployed man from Chappaqua.” Paltrow, dressed in white pants and a blue T-shirt, with her straight blonde hair hanging simply to her shoulders, announced “Hi,” then said that Wednesday’s benefit, to aid underprivileged children, had raised $500,000. Then she announced, “Are you guys ready?” And out came the evening’s musical entertainment: the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Wearing an open white shirt over his bare chest, lead singer Anthony Kiedis sported a new do: bleached blonde shag in front with a black ducktail in back. “Very cool,” said one model type amidst the crush. “Graphics are in for spring.”
