Sears, Roebuck and Co. has decided to drop one of its “modern villain figures” from its Christmas Wish Book because of complaints the dolls resemble the Trench Coat Mafia, two of whose members were responsible for the April shootings at Columbine High School. The $29.99 doll, recommended for children ages 5 and up, comes with a ski mask, black coat, body armor, shotgun and rifle. It appears in Sears’ holiday catalog as part of a series called “Heroes and Villains.” Other dolls in the set represent soldiers from World War II and Vietnam. Sears spokeswoman Peggy Palter said the retailer decided to drop the doll when officials realized it was “an inappropriate item to have this year.”
