A Colorado father died last week while driving his pregnant wife to the hospital to give birth to the couple’s third child.

Anthony Schmucker, 37, was driving with his wife Jill, 35, and their two children on Jan. 13 when their 2006 Nissan Pathfinder veered off the road and down an embankment at around 1:40 a.m., a Colorado State Patrol spokesperson tells PEOPLE.

“[The vehicle] struck a large boulder and a tree, after that impact, it began to roll,” the spokesperson said.

There were two children in the car at the time, the spokesperson said. Anthony was taken to Poudre Valley Hospital where he later died.

The spokesperson says medical issues may have led Anthony to lose control of the vehicle. A Larimer County Coroner’s Office spokesperson says Anthony’s cause of death has not yet been determined.

With Anthony and Jill unconscious, the oldest of the two children called 911, the Coloradoan reports.

Jill was airlifted to Medical Center of the Rockies with “serious injuries,” the spokesperson says. She underwent an emergency C-section, according to the Coloradoan.

She and her now-three children are expected to make a full recovery.

A GoFundMe account has been created for Jill and the children. As of Tuesday, more than $50,000 had been raised for the family.
