Coleman Comes Up Short

Former “Diff’rent Strokes” star Gary Coleman has filed for bankruptcy. Coleman, who once earned $70,000 an episode on the 1978-86 sitcom, blamed financial woes on his lifelong kidney problems, mismanagement of his money and settlement of a 1993 lawsuit over his earnings. (At his peak, Coleman was worth a reported $18 million.) “Today is not a day to focus on the past, but rather to look forward to a productive, happy and constructive future,” Coleman said Wednesday outside federal court in Los Angeles, where he filed.

  • Coleman, 30, last month paid a $400 fine for punching autograph-seeker Tracy Fields. Coleman, who was working as a security guard at the time of the incident, pleaded no contest in February to disturbing the peace. He was also ordered to attend anger management classes.
