Coke: A Good Sport

Coca-Cola Co. Co. reaffirmed its financial commitment to the Olympics as executives of the beverage giant prepared for a Tuesday-night meeting with a top Olympics representative following the scandal that has broken over alleged bribes to International Olympics Committee members. (Salt Lake City officials may have bribed IOC members to beat out other cities wanting to be the chosen as the site of the 2002 Games. Those charges were made last month by a senior member of the IOC executive board.) “As a supporter of the Olympics for 70 years, we believe in and are committed to the Olympic movement,” Coke spokesman Ben Deutsch said. Coke officials were scheduled to meet with Michael Payne, marketing director for the IOC, Tuesday night, and Payne is expected to meet Wednesday with other sponsors of the 2002 Winter Games in Utah, Deutsch said.
