Bob Knight will get to keep his job as basketball coach at Indiana University. Following an investigation by the University prompted by a player’s claims (substantiated by videotape footage) of abuse by Knight, university president Myles Brand held a press conference yesterday to announce that despite a “pattern of inappropriate behavior” by Knight, the Hall of Fame coach will be given one “last chance” to continue in leading the Hoosier team. Knight, who has coached the Hoosiers for 29 years, will be fined $30,000 and will be suspended from two games next season. He will also be held to strict guidelines. He did not attend the press conference. In a statement, the coach acknowledged a problem with his temper and said, “The establishment of effective and proper guidelines can in the long run help me become a better coach.”
