Christina Aguilera: Inside Her Life
WHAT A GIRL WANTS
Christina Aguilera's fiancé, Jordan Bratman, created the perfect scene to ask the singer to marry him on Feb. 11. During their vacation to Carmel, Calif., Bratman, 27, a music exec, proposed to her in a hotel room filled with rose petals, and red and pink balloons. He "got down on one knee and said, 'Will you do me the honor of being my wife?' " says Aguilera, 24. "I've been floating ever since."
GETTING WIGGY WITH IT
Who says Halloween is just for kids? Aguilera (dressed as Marie Antoinette) and Bratman get in the spirit by trick-or-treating in West Hollywood last year (her 8-year-old brother Mikey also came along). "Jordan is a great guy – he's really laid-back and funny. She seems to get his sense of humor," says Paul Sheehy, a studio manager who's worked with Bratman.
Aguilera, a first-time voter in 2004, speaks at an event to promote the Declare Yourself voter registration campaign. She appeared in a public service announcement for the campaign (whose slogan was "Only You Can Silence Yourself") in which her mouth was laced close.
RING'S THE THING
The singer shows off her five-carat-diamond-and-platinum engagement ring to newly betrothed Nicole Richie at the unveiling of Roberto Cavalli's Beverly Hills boutique on Feb. 15. Bratman, whom Aguilera met through a friend in 2002, spent several months working with London jeweler Stephen Webster (a favorite of Jennifer Lopez and Madonna) on the ring.
BENZ THERE, DONE THAT
Aguilera autographs the new Mercedes-Benz Class A at a launch event for the car in Milan, Italy. She later celebrated at a luxe party with fashion designer Giorgio Armani and former tennis star Boris Becker.
TWO TO TANGO
Aguilera does a show-stopping duet with Nelly of "Tilt Ya Head Back" at MTV's Video Music Awards in Miami last August. As for her own music, Aguilera is working on a follow-up to her multiplatinum-selling 2002 album Stripped, as well as a Spanish-language album.
It's a meeting of the divas: Aguilera parties with (from left) Mary J. Blige, Renée Zellweger, Angelina Jolie and Missy Elliott at the New York premiere of Shark Tale. Aguilera and Elliott updated the 1970s classic "Car Wash" for the animated film's soundtrack.
Aguilera is extremely close to her family, including brother Mikey, 8, sister Rachel, 18, mom Shelly and stepdad Jim Kearns. Her mother was the first person she called when she got engaged. But Aguilera is estranged from her father, Fausto, whose abusive relationship with her mom the singer writes about in tunes like "I'm OK."
ONE OF THE GUYS
Aguilera hangs tough with fellow music-makers (from left) Chad Hugo of uber-producers The Neptunes, Usher and Neptune Pharrell Williams at Usher's MTV Video Music Awards post-party at Miami's hip the Shore Club in August.
Former Mickey Mouse Club kid Aguilera gets back to her roots while celebrating her 24th birthday with Minnie Mouse at Disneyland (on December 18). A friend says of Aguilera's life now, "She's so happy."
