'Very Proud' Chelsea Clinton Won't Rush to the Campaign Trail for Mom Hillary

Former (and future?) First Daughter Chelsea Clinton shared on social media Sunday a “Very proud of you Mom!” after Hillary Clinton made her 2016 bid for the White House official. But a source tells PEOPLE Chelsea will not campaign for her mother any time soon.

Instead, Chelsea will, “in the near term,” prioritize the programs – empowering women and girls, elephant conservation and more – she and Hillary have championed together at the Clinton Foundation, the source says.

“But I think it’s fair to make the assumption she will do something at some point.”

After all, says another source: “Chelsea’s 100 percent behind her mom.”

And while this run for the White House, Hillary’s second, will keep the former secretary of state and first lady on the road for most of the next 19 months, one bright side is that the nascent campaign team has been based in New York City, not far from the apartment Chelsea shares with husband Marc Mezvinsky and their 6-month-old daughter Charlotte.

That’s meant more “Grandma Hillary” time, says the first source. “It’s been nice that, since all the planning has been in New York City, there’s been a lot of unexpected drop-bys to visit Charlotte.”
