Flashback: 'It' Couple Sean Penn and Charlize Theron's Double Oscar Win a Decade Ago
The pair both won Oscars at the 2004 Academy Awards
For most people, finding a picture of you and your boo before you got together means suffering through embarrassing high school dance photos, wild college party snaps or any number of awkwardly posed group shots.
In Hollywood, it means scouring red carpet images.
Charlize Theron and Sean Penn may currently be one of 2014’s hottest couples, but 10 years ago they were merely professional acquaintances who just so happened to reach the peak of their careers on the exact same night.
At the 2004 Oscars, the future couple were both up for acting awards: Theron for her transformative portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster, Penn for his role as a grieving father in Mystic River. As luck would have it, both won, leading to a celebratory photo session as they showed off their statues.
Did the pair take special note of each other as they posed with their Oscars? Did Theron glance over at Penn’s strong hands as he held his trophy, and wonder what it might feel like to have him hold her? And did Sean reflect on Charlize’s golden glamour and think, just for a moment, that she was an Oscar statue come to life?
We think we may have our answer.
