Nevzat Aydin started Yemeksepeti, a Turkish food delivery company, with only three other people 15 years ago. Fast-forward to today, when the 114-person company was sold to a German-based company for a staggering $589 million.
But it’s what Aydin chose to do with that payout, though, that’s pretty incredible. He divided $27 million from the sale among 114 of his 370 employees, which averaged out to about $237,000 each. Employees at the company earn $1,000 to $2,000 a month, according to CNN Money.
“Yemeksepeti’s success story did not happen overnight,” Aydin told CNN. “And many people participated in this journey with their hard work and talent. I believe in teamwork and I believe success is much more enjoyable and glorious when shared with the rest of the team.”
Aydin allocated the money according to a variety of factors: how long the employee had been working for him, their individual job performance and their “future potential in the company.” And apparently he decided to do this before the sale even occurred, though a spokesman for the German company, Delivery Hero, said they approved of the idea.
